I’ve received a lot of emails asking me to further explain the differences between endomorphs, ectomorphs and mesomorphs and how Kyle Leon’s system can help each one. So, to help people out, here’s a more thorough explanation.
Many years ago, when I made my first forays into weightlifting, I was really overwhelmed by how many different exercise, weightlifting and training programs were available. If that wasn’t enough, the amount of supplements, nutrition, dieting and other information was just way too much to digest. I switched from plan to plan and diet to diet and, as you can imagine, I got nowhere.
I had finally just about given up on my dream of building muscle and getting the body I wanted when a buddy of mine, Logan, showed me an article in a muscle mag that discussed body types. Well, I read it and it was like the curtain that was hiding all the body building secrets had finally been lifted.
When I first started working out, my bodyweight was a paltry 141 lbs and after 6 months I had only gained 3 lbs of muscle. I figured that as long as I was lifting every day, I’d gain muscle and weight. Wrong!!!
I read the article (and then reread the sections that were related to me) and realized that I was a classic ectomorph (skinny body; hard to gain muscle mass). Reading the article helped me understand how my metabolism worked, how my body type was setup and how I could gain muscle. I didn’t realize that because of my body type, I’d never build muscle unless I focused on my caloric intake, reducing cardio exercises and long periods of rest. Once I figured this out and applied it to my program, I started to make real, positive gains.

Endomorphic body types are generally those that are able to gain fat very easily. Do you remember George from Seinfeld? He’s an endomorph. These body types are generally referred to as stocky in nature. They are generally strong people that have a hard time losing their body fat.
When endomorphs lift weight to gain muscle, they oftentimes gain fat as well. This is due to their body type. As you’ll learn in the Muscle Maximizer, endomorphs need high amounts of cardio as well as intense weight lifting sessions to maxmize their muscle gain and fat loss. Diets high in lean protein are also recommended for this body type.
Mesomorphic individuals are those that have a large bone structure, generally well built muscles and are naturally athletic individuals. Think of Arnold Schwarzenneger when you think of mesomorphs.
This body type is the most ideal body type for building muscle. They are able to gain muscle quickly without gaining too much fat. They do, however, gain more fat than ectomorphs and need to monitor their caloric intake to combat this problem.
Generally speaking, a well balanced workout program including weights and moderate cardio is best for mesomorphs.
I’m an ectomorph. I’m a skinny dude that has a hard time gaining muscle. I can lift heavy weight all day long and only see minimal gains. I have a super high metabolism and I burn calories like crazy.
